Ninja

My two oldest children leave for school no later than 7:30 every morning. At 7:27 Kaia asked if I would walk with them. Um...sure. "All you have to do is put your pants on, mom!" And a bra for everyone's benefit... Forget about brushing my hair or teeth. Contacts are already in, as I was too lazy to take them out last night, so at least I can see the tragedies unfold. Flip flops as usual. Ready to go! Wait, where's Caleb? He's in his room trying on his Halloween costume... of course he is. "Cal, come on, we are walking Bubby and Sissy to school! Get some shoes on, hurry!" And we're off... Mom, daughter, son, and ninja...
I can see the friendly and somewhat elderly crossing guard lady- who, I might add, still fully embraces the blue eye shadow of the 80's- smiling her very cheery smile. Wait-is that laughter I see curling from the corner of her eye? Oh no... "Good morning kids! Who is this? A bodyguard??" Yeah, bodyguards wear face masks and carry swords... "I'm a ninja." ...Obviously... "Oh, you are? How cute! (laughs)" "WHY ARE YOU LAUGHING AT ME?! NINJAS AREN'T FUNNY! THEY KILL PEOPLE!" Fantastic, another church lady bites the dust... "Oh he's an angry ninja, isn't he?" (more chuckling) "Why does she keep laughing?" I smile an apology and walk faster. Why me?? I feel that by constantly providing entertainment for God I am securing my spot  in heaven... As we stroll along it does not elude my older two that people are pointing and smiling as they drive past. "Why do you let Caleb do whatever he wants? He's such a brat!" Well...yeah he is a little, but he's so cute. It's hard to say no...
We made it...we are back home. Things can only get better! Was that laughter I heard coming from heaven? Yep. Cal it's time to get dressed.... to be continued... for the rest of my life...
